history

Orcas Island Community Church has served the people of Orcas Island since 1884 when John Alexander Tennant gave up his career in politics and law to become a preacher, coming to the island on the tiny mail steamer Phantom along with his wife Clara, who was a Lummi tribal princess. OICC remains a part of the past, present and future of Orcas Island.

Our diverse congregation represents over 40 denominations, but we are unified in our mission to "pursue God in the company of friends for the benefit of the world." We continue the legacy left for us by previous generations of men and women who have responded to the call to take up their cross and follow Jesus. Our resident historian Dave Richardson created a short historical film to commemorate our 125th anniversary in 2009. You can view the film by clicking on the link below.
